About

Dennis and Kathy Gauhan:

Late in life Dennis became interested in photography and began learning about cameras and equipment.  Luckily it is the age of digital cameras and suffering through the beginner's "one good one for every 1,000 bad ones" has saved countless trips to the developer (as well as the cost of having to pay for prints when he forgot to remove the lens cover). Still very much an amateur Dennis finds photography is a great hobby and outlet for what limited creative juices he has.  His main problem is that he cannot get very good at any one genre (i.e. landscape, portrait, wildlife, etc.) and cannot help but flounder around with most all of them.

In the meantime Kathy could care less about f-stops, shutter speeds, ISO settings, etc. and packs her Nikon point-and-shoot whenever they venture out to scenic destinations.  She has what is called "a photographer's eye" and will often point out a scene or composition to Dennis to shoot with his "fancy" camera.  There have been many occasions where Dennis takes a half hour to set up his tripod, filters, and frame the scene only to come home and find Kathy's point-and-shoot image from a slightly different prospective or angle is far superior.

A prime example was our trip to Yosemite to photograph the famous Horse Tail Falls.  Dennis was so focused on getting the shot of the falls he completely missed the beautiful lighting and scene of the Merced River going on immediately behind him. Fortunately Kathy was able to capture this really nice shot with her trusty point-and-shoot.

So, even though most (but by no means all) of the images here were taken on Dennis's camera, they are a collaboration of Kathy's eye, direction, editing, partnership and encouragement.

We hope you get some enjoyment looking through them.
